Two people were rescued from Smith Mountain Lake in separate instances Tuesday afternoon, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. One of the people died, and the other was airlifted for medical treatment.
According to a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities were notified about a man who jumped off a boat to swim to the dock along Three Point Isle Drive in Penhook and did not surface. That person was discovered deceased. The name has not been released.
In another incident, a guy discovered in the water near Halesford Bridge in Moneta was airlifted to a hospital. No information about a condition has been released.
