Two individuals have been arrested and charged with distributing approximately 100,000 fentanyl pills in a Home Depot parking lot in New Jersey, according to prosecutors. The announcement was made on Thursday.
Pablo Suruy Hernandez, a 41-year-old man from Guatemala, and Giovanni Guzman, a 41-year-old man from El Salvador, face charges of conspiring to distribute fentanyl and intending to distribute fentanyl, as stated by U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna. Additionally, Hernandez has been charged with possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Court documents revealed that Hernandez was involved in trafficking narcotics in New Jersey, as per police information received in January. On January 16, Hernandez reportedly met with a confidential source to discuss the potential acquisition of firearms, fentanyl, and cocaine.
According to prosecutors, a few days later, Hernandez is said to have sold a defaced firearm to the confidential source. On February 7, Hernandez and Guzman reportedly met with the confidential source in the parking lot of Home Depot on Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen to sell 100,000 fentanyl pills.
During the search of Hernandez’s residence, law enforcement lawfully discovered and confiscated a total of 11 kilograms of fentanyl. Additionally, they were able to recover an impressive sum of nearly $65,000.
If convicted, individuals involved in the fentanyl conspiracy and distribution could face a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of up to $10 million.
