A two-year-old child and TikTok star best known as ‘Okay Baby’ has died in a car accident.
According to People, Preston Ordone, 2, died in a crash on April 24. The kid, popularly known as ‘Okay Baby,’ went viral on social media, with videos gaining millions of views.
The Louisiana State Police posted a news release about the incident. Just before noon, troopers responded to a crash involving a single car on Interstate 12, west of the LA Highway 59 exit in St. Tammany Parish. They confirm that the two-year-old was killed in the crash.
The news release explains that three people were in a 2011 Ford F-150 when the “vehicle veered off the roadway to the right and struck a tree.” It’s unclear what caused the crash, and police are investigating. The release explains that the driver and front passenger sustained serious injuries but were “properly restrained.” Emergency Services transported the pair to a local hospital. The release also states, “Preston, who was seated in the rear, but improperly restrained in a child safety seat, also sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.”
The Two-Year-Old’s Grandfather Disputes The Police Statement
The news statement states that Preston was “improperly restrained,” but his grandfather, Glen Norris, contradicts this accusation. In a phone interview with Nola, he argued that the infant was properly secured in the vehicle. Norris reportedly said that he spoke with a witness who was behind the truck, helped rescue the infant from the debris, and corroborated this. Norris reportedly told the newspaper that he was unhappy with the state police’s post, which he described as “hurtful and painful.”
Possibly in response to Norris’s interview, the Louisiana State Police have added a comment to the news release. “We do not do this with the intention of causing embarrassment, anguish, or anger. Our goal is never to add to the pain, but rather to fulfill our responsibility in this age of information. The Louisiana State Police must, when legally required, provide answers to the media and the public, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.”
The Ordones family has set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses and Katelynn and Jaelan’s recovery.
