On Monday, May 12th, at approximately 1:26pm, 19-year-old Davin Boutwell drove a white Mercedes to the Secret Cove community in Lakeland to conduct a cocaine deal, according to law officials. Alex met Boutwell at his car, where Ned Engle Blvd meets Pirates Way, while David and Anthony stood nearby while their co-conspirator Kristian remained in the getaway vehicle.
Boutwell sustained a gunshot wound to his chest during the brief meeting. The Mercedes accelerated down the road, colliding with 38-year-old Nathaniel Jones, Jr. on his electric bike and then crashing into a home on Pirates Way. Boutwell and Jones were dead when first responders arrived.
“As usual, my detectives hit the ground running speaking to witnesses, collecting evidence, using their available resources and their excellent skills,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. “What happened on Pirates Way was unusual and tragic. The six suspects we now have locked-up will be held accountable for their role in these murders. This is just another reminder that drugs, guns, and youth is deadly cocktail.”
PCSO police discovered that Kristian, David, Alex, and Anthony organized the robbery of Boutwell. Jessica and Isabella rode in the silver Nissan Altima that was to serve as a getaway vehicle. Kristian’s two small children were also present in the Nissan.
Alex concealed a shotgun seized during the robbery (but not used) behind a dumpster at a local convenience store. The shotgun was retrieved, but the firearm used to murder Boutwell had not yet been found.
