6-Year-Old Finds Parents Dead, Alerts Sister—Unaware She’s the Alleged Killer: Police

6-Year-Old Finds Parents Dead, Alerts Sister—Unaware She’s the Alleged Killer: Police

A 17-year-old Georgia girl is facing murder charges after her 6-year-old sister discovered their parents dead and unknowingly turned to the alleged killer for help.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the tragic case began on February 20, when a teenage girl dialed 911. Her younger sister had just run to her, saying their mother and stepfather—Kristin Brock, 41, and James Brock, 45—had been shot inside their home.

Authorities responded to the scene and launched a months-long investigation. Five months later, that same teenager, Sarah Grace Patrick, turned herself in and now faces two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. She’s being charged as an adult.

“From the very moment the 911 call was received, a relentless investigation began,” said sheriff’s office spokesperson Ashley Hulsey in a press conference.

Family Tragedy and a Shocking Turn

Patrick reportedly turned herself in with the help of her biological father after being informed she was a suspect. Investigators had been quietly building their case, combing through physical and digital evidence and working with the FBI and GBI crime labs.

“We feel confident that she is responsible for their murders,” Hulsey stated. “She turned herself in because we notified her that we had warrants for her arrest.”

Despite the arrest, Hulsey said the case remains open, and authorities haven’t ruled out additional suspects.

“It’s very possible others are involved,” she added. “We are still working with her diligently.”

A Sister’s Discovery and Lasting Trauma

The most heartbreaking detail? The first person to find the bodies was Patrick’s 5-year-old sister.

“She found them and then told Sarah,” Hulsey said. “Sarah made the 911 call.”

Authorities later confirmed the child had been in the home during the shootings but didn’t know they had occurred. Hulsey called her “probably the saddest victim in all this,” noting the trauma the young girl endured—and will carry for life.

A Funeral Speech and Lingering Questions

Adding to the shock, Patrick reportedly gave an emotional speech at her mother’s funeral. Investigators suspect this may have been an attempt to deflect suspicion.

Though no motive has been confirmed, police say they’re exploring Patrick’s past and living circumstances. She reportedly moved frequently and lived with different relatives over the years.

“We don’t know what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents,” Hulsey said. “She’s 17. She’s kind of been out on her own.”

No Signs of Forced Entry, Weapon Still Missing

Authorities ruled out a murder-suicide early in the case, noting no signs of forced entry—although one door was found slightly ajar—and no murder weapon was recovered.

Kristin and James Brock were described as beloved members of their community and new attendees of a local church.

“Kristen was bubbly and fun and she loved hugs,” said friend Tasha Meza. “James was comical—always cracking jokes to make you laugh.”

James had also survived numerous health challenges, including multiple heart surgeries. He may have been waiting for a transplant when he was killed.

“To have his life cut short, when he was given so many opportunities to live—that’s a big takeaway,” Hulsey said.

The couple leaves behind a blended family of seven children. If convicted, Patrick faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
