On Sunday morning, IMPD officers arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly being involved in a fatal shooting at an independent senior living complex on Indianapolis’ east side.
According to IMPD, around 11:30 a.m. on March 9, police responded to a complaint of a shooting at Serenity Manor in Indianapolis, which is located in the 1100 block of North Edmondson Avenue, near Shadeland Avenue and 10th Street.
Serenity Manor in Indianapolis’ website describes it as an independent senior living home for people aged 55 and above.
Authorities reported discovering a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office is investigating the exact method and cause of death and will announce the victim’s identification after the family has been notified.
IMPD officers apprehended a 60-year-old man within minutes of arriving at the site. When homicide detectives arrived, they discovered a disturbance between the man and the victim prior to the suspected shooting.
Several hours after the incident, police detained the man on a preliminary accusation of murder.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charge decision.
A gun was found at the scene, but police are still investigating whether it was used in the shooting.
Police also stated that they believe this is a unique incident.
