A 39-year-old woman from Michigan, Kate, is facing charges of murdering her 17-year-old son, Austln. The tragic incident took place just a day before the victim’s 18th birthday. The authorities have charged her with open murder and resisting and obstructing an officer. Under Michigan law, the jury will determine whether she is guilty of first or second-degree murder.
The mother made a distress call to 911 at approximately 4:15 a.m. on February 21, expressing her inability to revive her son’s breathing. She disclosed to the emergency dispatchers that earlier that day, both she and her son had attempted suicide by consuming an excessive amount of medication. Tragically, as her son drifted into unconsciousness, the woman resorted to using a knife to inflict cuts on his throat and arm.
When officers arrived, they discovered the defendant brandishing a huge kitchen knife and exhibiting blood on her clothing. Despite instructions to drop the firearm, she apparently refused, causing authorities to use a Taser, which proved ineffective. The defendant then threw the knife into the corridor but later tried to retrieve it. Officers were able to apprehend her and bring her into custody.
