For weeks, we’ve been wondering where the early summer weather is. A dreary spring has continued into June, with numerous days of rain and dark sky. And forget about weekends; they have always been damp.

Everything will change dramatically beginning this weekend, as sunny skies rule and temperatures surge over the “hot enough to swim” threshold. You will soon wish it was not so hot.

The cause of this rapid change is a gigantic ridge that will form over the Eastern United States, with the epicenter parked precisely over Pennsylvania, as shown below.

Humid air from the Atlantic will also play a significant role, with dew points reaching the 70s. In typical East Coast fashion, this will not be dry heat at all.

However, being outside in the heat is exhausting, even for a short period of time. Here are the predicted dew points for this coming Monday.

Here is some safety advice for the next major heatwave. Despite peaking from Monday to Wednesday, the heatwave will begin on Sunday and last for seven days.

The greatest thing you can do is remain indoors during peak heat. Although the elderly and young children are the most vulnerable to high heat, no one is immune.
