According to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, Aguibou Karambe, a resident of Manhattan, has pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted robbery. The incident occurred in the village of Monroe back in February 2023. The plea was entered on Tuesday, Aug. 6 in Orange County Court and was announced by Hoovler on Friday, Aug. 9.
As per the DA’s Office, a different member of the robbery team claimed to have a gun and kept their hand concealed in their jacket pocket.
Officials reported that the group managed to steal a variety of electronics from the store before departing. The stolen items were later traced to Mount Vernon, a city in Westchester County, where the group was apprehended with the proceeds from the robbery.
In his plea proceedings, Karambe confessed to attempting to steal property through force along with the assistance of another individual present at the location, according to the DA’s Office.
According to Karambe’s plea agreement, he could face up to five years in prison along with three years of post-release supervision. The final sentencing is set to take place on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Hoovler described the robbery as “brazen” and “ill-conceived” in a statement.
Hoovler expressed his gratitude for the swift actions of law enforcement officials and their thorough investigation, which led to the prompt apprehension of the individuals responsible for the incident.
