INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD officers have arrested a man after he allegedly fired a shot at someone, fled the scene, and then barricaded himself inside a home on the southeast side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

Officers believe the incident occurred around 10 a.m. on July 9 in the 7200 block of East Raymond Street, near South Hunter Road.

“They spoke to a victim, and they quickly located a suspect. Unfortunately, that suspect fled from our officers on foot,” said IMPD Officer Amanda Hibschman.

IMPD established a perimeter on Chesterhill Lane, near East Raymond Street and South Franklin Road, using drones and SWAT.

“I locked my doors when I first got home because everything was going on,” said Kate, a neighbor. “There were police all over the street. It was very scary. I didn’t know if I could get home or not, but I was able to come through the back way and come around.”

Neighbors expressed their concerns about the incident.

“There were at least 20 cars in here, plus SWAT. It was very scary, and we have a quiet neighborhood, a very quiet neighborhood,” Kate added.

IMPD helped persuade the man to leave the house.

“When they are on a track, they are given constant commands to the suspect to surrender with their hands up, and in this case, thankfully, that’s what the suspect did — they surrendered peacefully without further incident,” Hibschman said.

There were no reports of injuries. Police have not disclosed what led to the shooting.

The preliminary charges against the man have not been released. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
