Tow truck driving is an important job since people occasionally hinder traffic and businesses with their vehicles. However, certain tow truck businesses have been known to engage in exploitative behavior. One person in Missouri is now facing charges and other severe punishments for illegally towing vehicles.
These people won’t be driving tow trucks for the foreseeable future
The majority of tow truck driving companies are locally owned, and many have family members who hold leadership positions. According to KCTV5, this is the situation for Metro Tow and Transport in Kansas City, Missouri. However, the owner, Donald Adamson, 43, and his mother, Lannette Adamson, 63, are facing significant legal issues. Local prosecutors have filed 18 allegations against the two for illegal towing operations over the years.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the tow truck company “acted in concert to allow the company to tow vehicles illegally without proper authorization, falsified required 4669 forms, and made it extremely difficult for victims to retrieve their vehicles.” As previously mentioned, the organization has received numerous complaints for some time now. The complaints were about high prices, owners having problems returning their automobiles, and the corporation considering vehicles abandoned when they were not. In several situations, the mother and son claimed ownership of the vehicles.
Naturally, this tow truck company has had countless victims over the years. However, the most serious component of their crimes involved falsified signatures. They specifically submitted documents with copies of signatures rather than the originals, as required by law. Also, drivers were sometimes denied access to their cars when they came to pay. Their current charges include four counts of theft, four acts of forgery, and one case of harassment. They are currently housed in the Jackson County Detention Center, each with a bond of $100,000.
