An Excelsior Springs woman is facing two felony charges after a series of porch pirate thefts across Clay County over the weekend.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Kayley Worthington is charged with felony theft and felony possession of a controlled substance. The charges come after multiple reports surfaced on social media about stolen packages from Liberty, Smithville, and Kansas City, North, during the weekend.

Investigators from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office worked with police from neighboring cities, eventually tracing the thefts to a home in Excelsior Springs on Monday evening. Upon arrival, they found Worthington and arrested her. A search of the residence led to the recovery of 51 stolen items and methamphetamine.

So far, nine victims have been identified, and the Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who had a package stolen between November 29 and December 1 and has not filed a report to come forward.

Worthington is currently being held at the Clay County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. If released on bond, one condition is that she must remain at least 100 feet away from anyone’s porch, except her own.

Authorities are also considering additional charges and suspects in the case.
