A woman, aged 37, has been taken into custody for the murder of a 44-year-old man that took place almost four years ago in southern Miami-Dade County.
Detective Melanie Ginoris recently requested an arrest warrant based on Luz “Lucy” Ozuna’s statement. On September 18, 2020, Ozuna informed investigators that she was present at the crime scene when the shooting occurred.
According to the warrant, Ginoris, a Miami-Dade homicide detective since 2021, wrote that “she was outside of the residence with another individual, which was confirmed by the video footage obtained from the residence.”
Police reported that Bullard was fatally shot at approximately 2:30 a.m. on September 5, 2020, at 14741 Harrison St. in Richmond Heights.
The witness who allegedly found Bullard dead was interviewed by homicide investigators. According to Ginoris, the witness had called 911 and stated that he had come to the residence to purchase narcotics.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Laura MarÃa González-Marqués issued the warrant for Ozuna’s arrest without bond on Sunday, following Ginoris’s request, as per the records.
According to Ginoris, the evidence presented in the case included cell phone data and communication via the TextNow app.
Ozuna was apprehended by police officers at a residence near Northwest Eighth Avenue and 14 Street in Florida City on Tuesday at 11:55 a.m.
Ozuna was taken into custody by Miami-Dade correctional officers at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday. As of Wednesday, she was still being held at the facility.
Ozuna has been charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit armed home invasion robbery, and armed home invasion. On Wednesday, her defense team submitted a written plea of not guilty.
The court scheduled her pre-trial detention hearing for Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Additionally, her arraignment has been set for September 10th at 9:30 a.m. The case will be presided over by County Circuit Judge Zachary N. James.
