A Chicago man accused of domestic-related stabbings that triggered an Amber Alert on Friday has been released from the hospital and is being jailed in the Lake County Jail on multiple charges.
The attacks claimed the life of a 33-year-old lady and badly injured her two sons.
Amber Alert Arrest
What we know: Marcus Bausley, 39, of Chicago, faces a felony charge of obstructing law officers in Indiana. He is also awaiting extradition to Illinois, where he is charged with attempted murder, aggravated violence, and kidnapping, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
Bausley was rushed to the hospital shortly after being arrested Friday morning on I-65 near 137th Street in Indiana.
The backstory: Bausley is accused of killing Teone Jones, 33, and injuring her two young sons in stabbing episodes.
According to authorities, the first attack occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday in the 7100 block of South Eberhart Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing.
Jones was repeatedly stabbed in the back and abdomen, according to officials. She was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Around 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Jones’ 11-year-old son was discovered with stab wounds to the abdomen in the 200 block of West 66th Street, according to police.
He was sent to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Reports indicate that Jones’ youngest child is missing.
Dig deeper: Around 1 a.m. Friday, Chicago police issued a child abduction warning for Jones’ missing 8-year-old son, who had been stabbed several times in the chest, according to authorities.
The Amber Alert stated that the youngster was last seen around 7:40 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Eberhart Avenue, the same location of the initial attack. Someone reportedly spotted him in an SUV with Bausley.
Hours later, surveillance footage captured the boy wandering alone into a gas station convenience store on 82nd Street and Damen Avenue, where he requested assistance from a clerk.
The Amber Alert was canceled at 4:23 a.m. when Illinois State Police confirmed that the kid had been located.
He is receiving treatment at Comer Children’s Hospital and is in serious condition.
Suspect Arrested : A license plate alert system found Bausley’s vehicle, and officials began chasing it at I-65 and U.S. 30 in Merrillville around 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
When his car was stopped, he allegedly refused to get out and put a knife to his neck until authorities arrested him.
Police took Bausley to a nearby hospital for treatment of a superficial neck wound and a stab wound to his abdomen.
Prayer Vigil Held : A prayer vigil was conducted on Sunday for the Jones family, and community leaders urged others to report any suspicious activity they saw in person or online.
“We want everyone in the ward to be noisy. What you see on the internet is just as important as what you see in person. And so, noisy neighbors knocking on doors and making refuge is what we commit too. Not because of this tragedy, but this is the new norm going forward and unfortunately, time and time again, it takes tragedy for change,” said 6th Ward Alderman William Hall.
What’s next: It is unclear when Bausley will be extradited to Illinois, but in the meantime, he is being held at the Lake County Jail.
