A military judge on Tuesday found Sgt. Greville Clarke guilty on 29 separate charges, including attempted premeditated murder, rape, kidnapping, burglary, and obstruction of justice, following a court-martial in one of the U.S. Army’s most severe recent criminal cases.
Clarke was found guilty of a wide range of violent and sexual crimes against five victims, according to the United States Army Office of Special Trial Counsel. The guilty verdict included charges of assault with intent to rape and kidnapping, as well as aggravated sexual contact, aggravated assault, indecent visual recording, and robbery.
Clarke was found not guilty on two counts: attempted premeditated murder and fraudulent use of an access device.
The court-martial is now in the sentencing phase, which will include testimony from witnesses and arguments from both the prosecution and the defense. Officials expect this phase to last through Thursday or even Friday. After the sentencing arguments are completed, the presiding military judge will determine Clarke’s final sentence.
