Just weeks after a Florida sheriff was hauled off in cuffs over a $21.6M gambling ring, his wife now faces a felony of her own.
According to court records, Robin Lynn Severance Lopez, 50, was arrested by Lake County Sheriff’s officers at 9:55 a.m. and charged with conspiracy to use or invest proceeds from racketeering activity, a second-degree felony. She is being held without bond.
Her arrest comes only weeks after her husband, Marcos R. Lopez, the now-suspended Sheriff of Osceola County, was arrested on June 5 in connection with a $21.6 million illicit gambling business in Central Florida. According to the Florida Attorney General’s Office, Sheriff Lopez utilized his elected position to safeguard and expand the illegal enterprise, taking a cut of the illicit profits and allegedly using his position to cover the operation from law enforcement scrutiny.
According to investigators, the gambling network operated for years in Lake and Osceola counties, making millions of dollars in unlawful profits. After his arrest, Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order suspending Lopez from office.
Robin Lopez’s allegations are related to the same probe, implying a larger conspiracy including public corruption and financial crimes. Her arraignment is planned for July 21 at 8 a.m.
