One person is dead and at least two others are injured due to an ongoing conflict between teenage groups that resulted in a long night of gunfire in Brookhaven.
According to Lincoln County Coroner Blake Wallace, Kayden Mohon, 16, was fatally shot when he was called to 933 Ozark Lane at 6:23 p.m. Authorities are unsure if they shot Mohon there, or if they drove him there after a previous incident.
Authorities report that they shot another person at Ozark Lane and transported him to the hospital in a private vehicle. Authorities expect him to recover.
Authorities reported shooting at a home and a vehicle at 1020 Crooked Lane at 6:41 p.m.
At 7:12 p.m., a car was shot on 204 Mildred Street.
At 7:53 p.m., there was a shooting incident on 200 East Court Street.
There were reports of rounds being fired close to 200 Rogers Circle at 9:19 p.m., but there was no sign of any damage.
At 9:21, someone shot at a residence located at 311 Industrial Park Road.
A shooting occurred at 609 Brant Trail in the Brignall Community at 3:46 a.m., injuring a woman in the arm.
A house at 298 Marr Street sustained gunfire at 4:07 a.m.
Witnesses to the shooting on Brant Street provided a car description, but evidence was discovered in the yard, leading investigators to believe the culprits fled there.
Brookhaven is now in the process of picking a new police chief, having transitioned from an elected to an appointed chief. Crime has increased dramatically over the previous few years. City officials said they recognize how important it is to select a capable leader for the agency to manage such issues.
