Missing Women Found After Suspicious House Fire

On December 12, 2024, around 8:30 p.m., the New York State Police (NYSP) received information about two missing females, as stated in a press release.

On December 15, 2024, while actively investigating the case, the NYSP received information about a fire at 2 Birch Street in Plattsburgh. This address was the residence of the two missing women, located approximately 160 miles north of Albany.

On December 16, 2024, members of the New York State Police conducted an active search in the surrounding areas, resulting in the discovery of human remains. The State Police are currently executing multiple search warrants and processing the scenes in order to gather crucial evidence.

Who Were the Women?

According to NBC5, authorities are currently investigating the cases of two missing persons, Miranda Wade and Karen Besaw. However, the victims’ identities have not yet been confirmed by the New York State Police.

Two missing women were found dead after a mysterious house fire in upstate New York. The tragedy occurred on Birch Street in Plattsburgh.

Are There Any Suspects?

Joe Hewitt, who is said to be the boyfriend of one of the women at the home, was arrested on Sunday for tampering with evidence, as reported by NBC5. State Police have neither confirmed nor denied whether this charge is related to the disappearance of the two women.

According to the news station, Joe Hewitt, residing at 2 Birch Street in Plattsburgh, is registered as a sex offender on the National Sex Offender Registry.

According to State Police, they believe that this incident is isolated and there is currently no immediate danger to the public.
