Body discovered decomposed near DC elementary school and playground

A decomposing body was discovered near an elementary school in Southeast, D.C., on Tuesday, with authorities investigating who it is and how it got there, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Police are working to determine the age and gender of a person discovered near the intersection of Wayne Place and 4th Street, Southeast, after responding to a call at approximately 1:42 p.m.

The scene was just a few steps from the 4th Street Playground and across from Simon Elementary School. According to the school calendar, students in D.C. Public Schools are on summer break.

Homicide officers were not dispatched to the scene.

According to a statement, the police agency’s Natural Squad is investigating the event.
