Two individuals were taken into custody by the police for their alleged involvement in placing skimming devices at self-checkout registers across various Walmart stores in central Pennsylvania.
According to the charging documents, Marcus Covaci, a 20-year-old from Florida, along with a 16-year-old accomplice, stands accused of placing skimming devices on registers at Walmarts in Newberry Township, West Manheim Township, and Straban Township.
On February 1, a Walmart Loss Prevention employee in West Manheim alerted Troopers after discovering that someone had placed a skimmer on a register and returned a few days later to check its history. State Police were provided with security video footage of the incident.
After sharing photos of the individuals involved with other local law enforcement agencies, the police discovered additional incidents of card skimming that these same individuals were reportedly connected to.
