Good morning, everyone! The Northeast is in for some cloudy weather as our next system approaches later this afternoon. Brace yourselves for a burst of mild temperatures before winter makes a fierce comeback this weekend.

A system resembling a clipper will move swiftly down on Friday night and into Saturday. It is anticipated that development will occur off the coast during this time. As a result, there will be an increase in cloud cover and scattered snow showers on Saturday. Temperatures will drop into the 30s initially and then into the 20s on Sunday. Frigid conditions are expected overnight on both Saturday and Sunday, with the possibility of single-digit temperatures in the interior regions of the Northeast and New England.

Today’s system features a robust cold front extending from West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and down into Texas. This front is accompanied by intense showers and thunderstorms spanning hundreds of miles. Although there are no ongoing severe weather watches or warnings, isolated incidents of severe weather cannot be ruled out.

The riskiest areas at the moment appear to be in southeast Kentucky, eastern Tennessee, lower West Virginia, and western Virginia. It is also possible for this risk to extend into North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. In these regions, there is a potential for locally damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail, heavy rain, and even the possibility of an isolated tornado.

In New York City, we are currently experiencing a lovely morning with bright sunshine. However, as the day progresses, we can expect the clouds to increase, and there is a chance of some rain in the afternoon. As we move into the evening and tonight, the rain will become steadier, but fortunately, we can anticipate some partial clearing afterwards. Today, temperatures will reach the low to mid 50’s.

Expect to see sunshine and a steady breeze tomorrow. The temperatures will reach the mid 40’s at best. However, the forecast becomes more complicated on Friday as clouds start to increase. In the afternoon, we can expect some rain, which may initially begin as a mix of precipitation types. As we head towards Saturday, the rain will turn into a cold mixture of rain, sleet, or snow before sunrise.

A low-pressure system is developing off the coast, although it is slightly delayed and positioned quite far away from the coast. Nevertheless, it will still have enough proximity to bring in some clouds and flurries on Saturday, accompanied by gusty winds and temperatures ranging from the low to mid-30s. Overnight, temperatures will drop into the teens, and on Sunday, they will only manage to reach the mid to upper 20s. There is a possibility of temperatures dipping to around 15 degrees on Sunday night.
