The search for a father and son who went missing at sea over the weekend, off the coast of northern Maine, is currently being conducted by the United States Coast Guard.
Chester Barrett and Aaron Barrett, both commercial fishermen, were reported missing by a concerned family member on Saturday evening. They had failed to return from a fishing trip as planned, according to the bulletin issued by the Maine Department of Marine Resources. The search efforts are being carried out by the Maine Marine Patrol, a state maritime police service.
The two men had planned to sail from Cobscook Bay State Park in Edmunds, Maine, back to their hometown of South Addison, Maine, according to authorities. They were aboard the fishing boat named “Sudden Impact,” owned by the older Barrett, when they disappeared.
Marine Patrol officers initiated a search for them along the shoreline and in the water between South Addison and Lubec, located about 50 miles up the coast near Edmonds, around 7 p.m. ET on Saturday. Eventually, the U.S. Coast Guard and local fishermen joined the search, but due to poor visibility, the search had to be suspended until Sunday morning, as reported by the state agency.
Chester and Aaron Barrett were last known to have been in contact at around 11:30 am on Saturday morning, according to the Coast Guard. The agency has urged anyone with information regarding their location to get in touch by calling 833-449-2407.
The search conducted by Marine Patrol on Sunday will continue to concentrate on the area between Lubec and South Addison. However, there have been no further updates from either the state agency or the Coast Guard regarding the investigation.
