A Dominican national has been sentenced to 60 months (5 years) for his involvement in trafficking fentanyl from a Pennsylvania “drug mill,” according to authorities.
Hector Luiz De La Cruz Nunez, 32, has admitted in court to conspiring to distribute and possess fentanyl with the intent to distribute it. He has also pleaded guilty to possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute it, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna.
Nunez and his associates ran a “drug mill” in Philadelphia, producing significant quantities of fentanyl. In March 2022, the police pulled over a vehicle driven by Nunez during a traffic stop. They discovered a hidden compartment containing nearly six kilograms of fentanyl, equivalent to around 400 bricks.
Nunez will also be subject to three years of supervised release, in addition to the 60-month sentence.
Nunez’s accomplices, Emmanuel F. Almonte Mejia, 40, and Loanny F. Duran Hiciano, 37, have both admitted their involvement in the conspiracy to distribute and possess fentanyl with the intent to distribute. Khanna mentioned that Mejia and Hiciano are currently awaiting sentencing.
