A DoorDash employee has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal the order of a retired deputy left paralyzed in the line of duty.
On Monday afternoon, retired Madison County Deputy Brad Sullivan called the Madison Police Department to report a DoorDash order he had placed at Academy Sports in Madison.
Deputy Sullivan sustained two gunshot wounds to his head in 2019 while pursuing a kidnapping suspect. The chase left the father of two paralyzed on the left side.
Deputy Sullivan told officers on Monday that he placed the order for his kid and that it was picked up by a DoorDasher identified as “Dennis K.”
Deputy Sullivan went on to add that he contacted the store, and the manager informed him that “Dennis K” picked up the item and departed the store with it.
However, the order received a cancellation mark shortly afterward. Deputy Sullivan never canceled the order.
When Deputy Sullivan approached the DoorDasher, later identified as Terel Hampton of Jackson, Hampton stated that he did not have his order and refused to deliver it to him.
Through the cooperation of Academy Sports and investigation methods used by the Madison Police Department, it was discovered that Hampton had indeed exited the business with Deputy Sullivan’s property, and his vehicle was located.
A short time later, officers were able to locate and halt Hampton’s vehicle.
During the stop, authorities discovered a weapon, drugs, and items belonging to Deputy Sullivan.
The product included two sets of shoes, two shirts, and one pair of shorts.
Officers arrested Hampton for petty larceny, using improper equipment, and possessing marijuana while in possession of a handgun.
They returned Deputy Sullivan’s belongings to him and brought Hampton to Madison County Jail.
