A 41-year-old long-haul trucker from Kirbyville is being held in Indiana on allegations of online solicitation of a 12-year-old girl in Jasper County, according to Sheriff Chuck Havard.
Randy McCullough, 41, of Kirbyville, was arrested today in Indiana on a Jasper County warrant, thanks to a combined investigation including the US Marshals, FBI, Indiana State Police, and local law enforcement. He is in the Hendricks County Jail, awaiting extradition to Jasper County.
“This horrific crash underscores the devastating and entirely preventable consequences of driving under the influence. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family as he begins the arduous journey of healing from these life-altering injuries,” said Tampa Police Chief Chief Lee Bercaw. “The safety of our community, including our officers, will always be our primary focus. While we understand emotions may be heightened surrounding such a traumatic event, interfering with law enforcement who are working to investigate and hold suspects accountable is unacceptable, dangerous, and will not be tolerated. We are committed to holding those who make reckless choices accountable and will continue our efforts to keep our shared roadways in Tampa safe.”
The investigation began on April 22, when the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous report from Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas. A concerned citizen reported inappropriate communication between a 41-year-old male and a 12-year-old girl.
Investigator David Lampman was immediately assigned to the case and started working on it. The victim’s mother was interviewed, and the youngster underwent a forensic interrogation.
The inquiry discovered that the suspect and the victim had exchanged digital photographs and videos containing sexual content. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for McCullough’s online solicitation of a minor on May 19, initiating an active pursuit. The investigation revealed that McCullough, a long-haul truck driver, was not located locally. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office contacted the United States Marshal’s Service for assistance in finding him, and they began their search.
