District Attorney Bubba Bramlett of Madison and Rankin Counties has recently revealed that an Olive Branch resident has received a thirty-year prison sentence in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Notably, fifteen years of this sentence will be served day-for-day, with no chance for parole or early release.
Flowood Police stopped a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Charles Ira Johnson on June 14, 2023, as stated in a press release from Bramlett.
During the conversation with Johnson, officers detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. This prompted them to conduct a probable cause search, which ultimately led to the discovery of a small quantity of marijuana and 4.5 kilos of methamphetamine in a cardboard box on the front passenger seat.
Johnson was apprehended by the officers on charges of aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance. In addition to the felony foreign warrant, he also faced several misdemeanor charges.
District Attorney Bubba Bramlett stated, “We hope this is the end of Johnson’s criminal behavior and that this sentence will discourage others from choosing to make easy money by trafficking illegal drugs in and through our county, state, and country.”
