A 19-year-old father has been imprisoned on allegations that he kidnapped his two-month-old baby and tossed her over a fence in Edgewater.
Prosecutors say Nickolas Watts got into an altercation with his child’s 18-year-old mother at the Granville Red Line station around 12:23 p.m. on Friday.
Watts allegedly pulled the girl from her stroller during the scuffle, escalating the fight, according to officials. Prosecutors believe Watts fled after kicking the lady in the face.
Witnesses informed police. Watts flung the baby over a fence before jumping over it to make his escape. Around 12:44 p.m., police recovered the baby and arrested Watts in the 1000 block of West Glenlake.
Officials stated that the baby is healing from fractures sustained during the event.
Judge Sabra Lynne Ebersole detained Watts on the state’s request.
Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth (48th) stated that Loyola University Police assisted CPD with the initial 911 call.
Calumet City police arrested Watts in April on a domestic assault complaint after the same lady alleged he hit her, according to public records. According to court documents, prosecutors dismissed the case after the lady failed to appear in court a month later.
