In a harrowing case in New York that left a family grappling with emotional trauma, a 33-year-old man identified as Drew G. was sentenced after admitting to the brutal stabbing death of his pregnant 29-year-old wife, Samantha G., as well as the attempted murder of their two young daughters. Prosecutors believe the attack was motivated by his rage about the gender of the unborn child.
Drew was sentenced to 30 years in jail, followed by 15 years of probation, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and two charges of assault in the deaths of his wife, Samantha, who was five months pregnant with their third child, and the stabbings of their two daughters, ages 6 and 9. The sad events occurred on September 4, 2024, at the couple’s house, two days after Labor Day. According to the New York State Police, troopers responded to a suspected domestic quarrel. Drew immediately surrendered to the authorities and was placed under arrest. A local hospital treated him for his slight wounds before taking him to jail, where they kept him without bail.
The hospital evacuated Samantha, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly after her arrival. Despite the incident injuring their two little girls, they managed to survive and are currently under the care of family members. Samantha’s father made a tragic victim impact statement in court during Drew’s sentence hearing, publicly addressing what he believed was the purpose for the crime. “He had wanted a boy,” he said in court.
While investigators did not identify a precise motivation throughout their inquiry, this comment shed light on the emotional dynamics driving the violence. Samantha’s father stated that the girls were extremely traumatized and that the emotional scars from watching their mother’s murder and experiencing the assault themselves would take years to heal. Smith vehemently protested, demanding that no-contact orders be issued for as long as legally permitted.
Judge J. Hubbard granted the plea, issuing stay-away orders until 2056, but he highlighted that the girls would eventually have the ability to establish contact with their father if they decided to do so once they were adults.
