A former Kansas doctor, Frederick Louis Tanzer, residing in Ohio, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on Friday. The six-count indictment stems from his DNA being linked to a rape case that occurred in 1989.
Tanzer allegedly lied to federal investigators regarding his interactions with the victim on the day she was assaulted. He faces charges for making false statements to a government agency or officer, as well as for creating or using a false document. If convicted, each count could result in a maximum prison sentence of five years. It is important to note that federal crimes can still be prosecuted, even if the original offense is beyond the statute of limitations.
Dr. Tanzer, a medical doctor, has experience practicing in Ohio, Kansas, and Colorado. The Kansas Board of Healing Arts confirms that he obtained his medical license in 2015 and renewed it in 2024. During the execution of the search warrant at Tanzer’s residence in Sycamore Township, Ohio, on December 11th, investigators discovered a collection of items inside Tanzer’s dresser. These items included restraints, a gag, a black hat, and zip ties.
