Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have been issued by the NWS in anticipation of a brief yet powerful snowstorm expected on Sunday. Travel conditions will be hazardous in most parts of the state during Sunday afternoon and evening. It is strongly recommended to stay indoors and enjoy watching a snowy Eagles playoff game.
There are Extreme Cold Watches in Western and Northern PA, as shown on the graphic below, which have been issued for Monday to Thursday. Due to the risk of frostbite, there is a high likelihood that schools will remain closed for several days during the upcoming week. Stay tuned for more information on Sunday!

Snowfall is expected to begin in Southern PA on Sunday morning, gradually moving from southwest to northeast between 9 to 11 AM. As the morning progresses, the snow will advance towards I-80, while intensifying in Southern and Eastern Pennsylvania.
Heavy snow is expected to persist mainly along and east of the I-81 corridor until Sunday afternoon. In Northern PA, there will be light to moderate snowfall near I-99 and Route 15. As the evening progresses, the snow will gradually taper off from southwest to northeast and eventually clear out.
The snowfall expected from this storm will be light and fluffy, making it easier to shovel. However, the windy conditions that will follow the storm pose a risk of snow drifts on the roads. Additionally, the extreme cold temperatures accompanying the storm can be life-threatening.

The Hi-Res Rapid Refresh Model’s latest future radar, as of Saturday evening, aligns with the timing mentioned earlier. Additionally, there is a slight possibility of mixing in Philadelphia and lake effect snow in NWPA.
FINAL CALL SNOWFALL FORECAST FOR SUNDAY
Snowfall accumulation of 6 – 8 inches is expected in Area A. As a result, the roads will be covered in snow, leading to hazardous travel conditions from the start of the snowfall until early Monday morning.
Expect snowfall accumulation of 4-6 inches in Area B. As a result, roads will be covered in snow, making travel unadvisable starting from when the snow begins until early Monday morning.
Expect a snowfall accumulation of 2-4 inches in Area C, which will result in snow-covered roads and extremely challenging travel conditions.
Expect snowfall accumulation of 1-2 inches in Area D. This could lead to secondary roads being covered in snow, making travel slippery.
