Southern Kansas was hit with substantial amounts of rainfall on Sunday, leading to flash flooding in certain areas due to the rapid accumulation of water. This recent weather event has caused concern among locals who are now grappling with the aftermath of the heavy rainfall.

This morning, the Dodge City Fire Department successfully rescued a driver who was trapped in floodwaters under a train bridge.

Storm Team 12 Meteorologist Dean Jones reported that Dodge City was blessed with over four inches of rainfall between 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday. The highest amount of rainfall, with over two inches, was recorded during the hour between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.

According to a report from the National Weather Service in Dodge City, Sunday’s showers have set a new record for the highest amount of rainfall in the month of June. This surpasses the previous record of 11.17 inches, which was set way back in 1899.

Rainfall amounts varied significantly across Kansas overnight, with some areas receiving as little as half an inch while others saw nearly five inches. It’s possible that an additional 1-3 inches could fall throughout the rest of Sunday.
