While the legendary Florida man is usually full of surprises, they aren’t always very smart. One man took a car without looking at the gas gauge. So, rather than fleeing, he was apprehended while attempting to acquire gas.
Florida man arrested with stolen car while buying gas
Police officers conveniently recovered a stolen stolen at a gas station. This is quite different from the usual tales involving high-speed chases and fiery collisions.
Anyway, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) began pursuing a stolen red car after getting an alert near 56th Street and Hanna Avenue.
The officers began playing a game of cat and mouse. They followed the vehicle on 6th Street and Hillsborough Avenue.
According to CBS 12, the driver cut across multiple lanes while traveling southbound on Hillsborough Avenue to get to a Shell gas station.
The suspect must have been very confident to stop so close to where he took the vehicle. It doesn’t appear like he was aware he was being followed. However, police officers obtained aerial surveillance of the sedan’s movements.
TThen the vehicle parked near a fuel pump. The suspect, 45-year-old Robert Ritt, exited the stolen car to enter the Shell store before being apprehended by police officers.
Ritt was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary of an occupied conveyance, petit theft in the first degree, possession of burglary tools, and unlawful possession of a stolen credit or credit card.
The owner of the vehicle is exceedingly fortunate that it was not harmed. It was immediately retrieved before being damaged, sold off, or disassembled.
