Florida Police Arrest Suspect Who Scammed Texas Elderly Couple on Facebook

With the rise of social media, it has become increasingly difficult to differentiate between genuine information and fake news, leading to an increase in scams. The problem is that it’s not always easy to verify the credibility of those you’re dealing with, especially when they offer seemingly irresistible deals and offers.

Beware of seemingly attractive deals as they might cost you a fortune in the long term. Recently, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office reported on a series of scams where an elderly couple lost thousands of dollars to a serial scammer. It’s crucial to be vigilant and cautious of such fraudulent activities to avoid being a victim.

In March of 2020, an elderly couple in Smith County observed an advertisement on Facebook concerning asphalt paving.

The surface of the asphalt pavement road is cracked and grey due to aging.

According to a press release from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, the couple contacted the number provided in the advertisement and enlisted the services of Timothy Mark Adams to pave their driveway. Regrettably, the couple paid Adams a sum of $3,000 in advance but did not receive any work in return.

The case involving Timothy Adams and his fraudulent activities was brought to the attention of the Smith County Investigators along with other similar cases. Additionally, the investigators in Hoover, Alabama, who were also looking into Adams’ scams, were contacted for further correspondence.

In 2020, Timothy Mark Adams was issued two Felony Theft warrants by Smith County Investigators, along with a Grand Jury Indictment from the DA’s Office. However, Adams fled the town soon after and even went on to send threatening messages to one of the victims.

Investigators discovered that Adams was scamming people in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas.

John Partlow, a Fraud Investigator for Smith County, received information on the possible location of Timothy Mark Adams on July 29, 2024. It was reported that Adams may have been staying at an RV park in Taylor County, Florida.

After exchanging information with Taylor County Sheriff’s Investigators, Detective Partlow successfully tracked down Timothy Mark Adams at an RV park in Perry, Florida. Adams was apprehended on multiple warrants and is presently awaiting extradition to Smith County.

  • Never pay anyone up front for services until the work is completed unless they require money for materials during the project.
  • Asphalt driveway scammers are one of the most prevalent forms of this type of fraudulent activity and cost victims thousands of dollars each year.
