According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a man on the state’s 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants list was apprehended in Tarrant County last week.

Haltom City Arrest

Carlos Venegas Ortiz, 46, of Mexico, has been wanted in Tarrant County since October 2024 for repeatedly sexually abusing a child under the age of 14.

He was arrested at an apartment complex in Haltom City.

He is being jailed at the Tarrant County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Texas DPS officers did not say what would happen next with his immigration status.

The backstory: According to the DPS, Ortiz arrived in the United States in April 2005. Since 2008, he has been arrested in Tarrant County for assault resulting in bodily harm to a family member and driving under the influence.

Ortiz’s arrest was the result of tip information provided by Texas Crime Stoppers; thus, a reward will be given.

By the numbers: So far in 2025, DPS and other agencies have apprehended 21 Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives, Sex Offenders, and Criminal Illegal Immigrants, including six sex offenders and seven criminal illegal immigrants, with $25,000 in prizes offered for tips that resulted in arrests.
