A fugitive wanted on murder charges in Las Vegas was apprehended on Friday in northern Arizona after evading law enforcement.
A task force in Nevada alerted Arizona officials that 39-year-old Samuel Douglas Conway was possibly in the northern section of the state and requested assistance in apprehending the suspect.
On Thursday, the United States Marshals Service Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force attempted to apprehend Conway in St. Johns, but he escaped into the woods. Authorities say Conway has a violent history and has previously resisted arrest.
The next day, officers arrested Conway in Holbrook. He was transferred to the Navajo County Detention Center and will remain there until he is extradited to Nevada.
“A violent criminal is off the streets thanks to seamless law enforcement collaboration – no one was hurt, and our communities are safer because of it. We thank all the agencies involved for their teamwork and dedication,” District of Nevada U.S. Marshal Gary Schofield said.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety, Apache County Sheriff’s Office, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Flagstaff Police Department SWAT, Navajo County Major Crimes Apprehension Team, Navajo County Probation, St. Johns Department of Corrections, and St. Johns Police Department all provided assistance with the mission.
