A Georgia woman is facing charges after police say she drugged a Miami man and stole valuables from his residence, including a Rolex. According to Local 10 News, Bianca Thorpe, of Grovetown, Georgia, was arrested following an investigation that led detectives to a Dodge Durango connected to the crime.
The incident took place on June 11, when the victim met Thorpe and another lady at Coco Night Club in Wynwood. After dining at a Jamaican restaurant, they went to the man’s apartment, where he drank iced tea and became ill, according to Local 10. The man awoke the next morning to discover his belongings stolen, the burglars gone, and his flat ransacked, with estimated damages of $25,350.
The club’s surveillance footage identified Thorpe as the one dancing with the victim. When compared to the footage, her distinguishing neck tattoo confirmed her involvement even more. According to a Facebook post by Miami-Dade County Mugshots, Thorpe is charged with one crime of burglary of an occupied house and one count of second-degree grand theft of $20,000 to $100,000.
A detective approached Thorpe beside the parked Durango, but she declined further examination and requested a lawyer. This episode is consistent with a trend in South Florida, where people are allegedly being drugged and robbed of expensive things after meeting in nightlife hot spots. Suspects from throughout the country have been involved in similar thefts.
Thorpe remains in detention at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is being held on a $7,500 bond.
