Serenity was a bright, kind, and compassionate young soul with an exciting future ahead of her. She made everyone happy and affected so many people’s lives with her kindness.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family of Serenity Baker, the girl who was fatally stabbed during an altercation at a Killeen ISD middle school on Monday.

“The pain of her passing is unbearable, and our family is now faced with the overwhelming emotional and financial burden of laying her to rest,” according to the fundraising site.

According to KISD Chief of Police Erik Hydorn, an altercation between two students ended in a stabbing around 11:25 a.m. on March 10. The perpetrator was soon captured, and the stabbed student was immediately brought to the Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center.

“The victim succumbed to her injuries” at the hospital, Hydorn further said. A homicide investigation is underway. The Killeen Police Department confirmed the accused attacker is a female student.

Roy J. Smith Middle School students will not return to school until after spring break on Monday, March 24.

“Our hearts are heavy as we navigate this difficult time together,” said KISD Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Fey. “We know this tragedy has deeply affected our school community, and we want to ensure that our students, staff, and families have the space and support needed to grieve and begin to recover.”
