Gulfport Police announced on Friday that a man charged with manslaughter in the beating death of a 75-year-old man in November has turned himself in.
Ellis Townsend, 27, is accused of the alleged assault in November in the 2910 block of 25th Avenue.
According to a GPD news release, the investigation determined that Townsend, who was considered armed and dangerous, hit the victim many times in the head, knocking him down, and then continued the assault. According to police, the incident came to an end when spectators dragged the on-duty security guard away from the victim.
