Eva Marin, pictured in a Marion County Jail mug shot, allegedly left the scene of a fatal hit-and-run in Indianapolis, Indiana, stating she needed to take her children to school. According to court documents, two days later she was stopped by police on the same route, where authorities reportedly found “brain matter” beneath her Dodge Charger.

The incident occurred on November 28, 2023, when 18-year-old Cedric “Poppi” McCombs III was fatally struck while walking near Southeastern Avenue’s north bike lane around 6 a.m. Zachary Rutherford, a witness who called 911, described seeing Marin next to McCombs’ body, expressing concern over his condition.

Rutherford recounted that Marin, appearing distraught, then allegedly drove away in the Dodge Charger after a brief interaction. Surveillance footage from a nearby resident reportedly captured the vehicle’s involvement in the collision, capturing audio of tires screeching up to the impact.

Police theorized Marin’s daily commute and timing, leading to her apprehension at Southeastern Avenue and Wildwood Farms Boulevard. Upon stopping her, officers observed what appeared to be blood, brain matter, and tissue near the vehicle’s bumper. During questioning, Marin mentioned encountering an obstruction on the road but denied causing the collision.

Despite Rutherford’s assertion that Marin seemed focused on taking her children to school rather than aiding McCombs, Marin allegedly confirmed to detectives that McCombs was already deceased when she encountered him. Further examination of the Dodge Charger revealed significant evidence of bodily fluids and tissue underneath.

Marin was later identified by Rutherford in a lineup. Under Indiana law, leaving the scene of a deadly accident without offering aid or notifying authorities constitutes a level 4 felony. Marin faced charges months after the incident and was booked into custody in July.

As of now, there is no listed defense attorney for Marin, who is scheduled for a court appearance on July 12. A GoFundMe campaign has been established in memory of McCombs, described as a beloved high school senior known for his loving nature and familial ties.
