The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said deputies shot and killed a man in public Wednesday morning who was dressed and armed in full military gear.
According to authorities, the man, later identified as 34-year-old Vincent Tyler Morin, refused to lay down his gun when requested.
Around 7:30 a.m., the incident occurred at Brandon’s Windingwood Avenue and Providence Road crossroads.
According to the HCSO, they received many calls concerning the individual, who was carrying a fully loaded gun, body armor, a headset, and other items.
According to Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer, deputies arrived minutes later and instructed Morin to down his firearm. Three deputies shot the man after he refused to cooperate, and he eventually died of his injuries.
“That suspect, whatever his intentions were, were not peaceful. You don’t dress in army fatigues, with attack vests, with body armor, a fully loaded assault rifle, and comms on your head to do anything peaceful,” Maurer said.
Morin, according to HCSO, had no prior history of violent crime.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating, as is customary.
