An East Chicago man is facing several felony drug charges after Hobart Police conducted a weeks-long investigation into cocaine trafficking, which included two controlled buys, surveillance operations, and a raid that discovered drugs and firearms.
According to a charge affidavit, investigators used a confidential informant (C.I.) to successfully purchase cocaine from Dwayne Doss, a known subject who lives at 3808 Deal Street in East Chicago and works at the Albanese Candy Factory in Merrillville.
The purchases were made in a maroon Chevy Impala, which was monitored by law enforcement and linked to Doss’ home.
On May 6, police executed a search warrant at Doss’ home, discovering 12 individually packaged packages of suspected cocaine weighing 6.5 grams, as well as a Mossberg shotgun and a a.380 Smith & Wesson revolver. Investigators believe the packing and firearms suggest that the narcotics were meant for distribution.
Doss was later stopped in Hobart for speeding and recognized using his Indiana driver’s license. The vehicle matched the maroon Impala utilized in the narcotics deals.
Dwayne Doss is currently facing official charges, including:
- Dealing in Cocaine
- Possession with Intent to Deliver
- Maintaining a Common Nuisance – Controlled Substances
The inquiry is ongoing, and additional charges may be made.
