A Seabrook man has been handed two 75-year prison terms for shooting at two Houston police officers during a traffic stop in 2022, resulting in permanent injuries to one officer. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing on Thursday.

The man, Jimmy Caston Bryan, 25 years old, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant after he opened fire on the officers who had pulled him over near 14300 Gulf Freeway on May 4, 2022. At the time, Bryan was out on bond and wearing an ankle monitor for a previous charge of methamphetamine possession, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

During the traffic stop, Bryan was asked to exit his black Chevrolet truck after failing to comply with the officers’ requests. As he unbuckled his seatbelt, Bryan pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and shot one officer in the chest and hip. Both officers fired back, injuring Bryan, who was subsequently arrested, as stated in the press release.

The injured officer suffered a broken pelvis and will require the use of a cane for mobility for the rest of his life. A search of Bryan’s vehicle revealed over 48 grams of meth, heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, a digital scale, and two additional handguns.

State District Judge Aaron Burdette handed Bryan a 75-year prison sentence for each count, to be served concurrently. Assistant District Attorney Mary McFaden, who prosecuted the case alongside ADA Gabriel Kabak, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, saying, “We’re pleased that we were able to bring justice for these two officers.”

Kabak highlighted Bryan’s extensive criminal history and also noted that Bryan was found with illegal drugs and a weapon even while in jail. “He has been causing chaos in the state of Texas for nearly a decade,” Kabak said. Bryan will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence.
