HOUSTON — A young girl is in critical condition after being brutally beaten by a friend of her mother, as reported by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) was alerted when the 4-year-old victim was taken to a hospital with severe injuries. After an investigation, it was determined that she had been beaten, and she was subsequently transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital, where her injuries are considered life-threatening.
Sheriff Gonzalez stated that the child had been left in the care of 20-year-old Tameria Barnett when her mother went to prison.
Barnett was arrested on Friday and charged with injury to a child.
Court documents reveal that Barnett had been beating the victim for months, using a belt, a cord, and her hands.
Barnett is currently being held at the Harris County Jail.
