According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, thousands of migrants were apprehended in various places across the United States over the Memorial Day weekend.
ICE highlighted many arrests on Saturday, when migrants were apprehended by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) personnel in Boston, Denver, Houston, Newark, New York City, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco.
Kevin Estuarde Hernandez, 18, of Guatemala, was detained by ERO Boston and other federal agencies. Hernandez was in the United States without entry or parole. He is a suspected 18th Street gang member who, according to Everett, Massachusetts police, was involved in a shooting between the 18th Street and MS-13 gangs.
ERO Denver apprehended Jose Antonio Deras, 45, of El Salvador. Deras, who is in the United States unlawfully and was refused temporary protected status in 2008, was ordered to leave by a judge in 2009. According to ICE, he has multiple traffic offenses and is currently charged with criminal sexual assault on a child.
Misael Delgado-Carlos, 35, of Mexico, was apprehended by ERO Houston. She was previously expelled from the United States before illegally reentering. She has also been convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Harris County, Texas, and sentenced to four years of deferred adjudication.
Eduardo Sanchez-Hernandez, 32, of Mexico, was apprehended by the Newark ERO with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations Newark. Sanchez-Hernandez, who entered the United States illegally, has a criminal record that ICE says includes an arrest and awaiting disposition on accusations of sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and endangering sexual activity with a minor.
ERO New York City detained Litzy Janel Saavedra, 26, of Mexico, after she was served with a Notice to Appear. Saavedra, who is in the United States illegally, has a criminal record that includes a 2022 conviction for third-degree felony rape in Yonkers, New York.
Jose Barrios-Bello, 35, of Mexico, was detained by ERO Salt Lake City after being previously deported from the United States and reentering unlawfully. He had been convicted of distribution of methamphetamine and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Carlos Torres Valdovinos, 46, of Mexico, was apprehended by ERO San Francisco. He entered the United States illegally and has a criminal record, including a felony conviction for oral copulation of a kid in Stanislaus County, California. He was sentenced to twelve years in prison.
Torres Valdovinos was removed to Mexico on Sunday, according to ICE. The others will be held in detention until deportation proceedings.
