A man who admitted to illegally living in the United States was apprehended following a late-night traffic stop at a town square in The Villages.
Andres Felip Alvarez Claro, 27, of Ocala, was driving a dark blue Toyota Highlander at 10:43 p.m. Tuesday when he was stopped at Lake Shore Drive and Canal Street at Lake Sumter Landing because the vehicle lacked a tag light to illuminate the license plate, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
During a traffic stop, Alvarez Claro gave the deputy an Ecuadorian ID card. He stated that he did not have a Florida driver’s license. The Colombian native also claimed to have been living illegally in the United States since 2020. The deputy also discovered that Alvarez Claro had previously been detained for driving under the influence in Miami-Dade County.
He was brought under arrest and placed into the Sumter County Detention Center. He was being held there with a hold placed on him by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
