An Iowa man was sentenced to two years in jail on Tuesday after he threatened to kill a detective in Arizona.
Malachi Reed, 21, of Des Moines, pled guilty to using interstate commerce to transmit a threat, according to a release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
Why did the Iowa man threaten a detective in Arizona?
Prosecutors say that on August 6, 2024, a kid went missing from the Gila River Indian Community.
Collaborating state law enforcement agencies discovered that the kid had flown to Des Moines to meet Reed at the airport.
According to authorities, a detective with the Gila River Police Department called Reed to ensure the minor’s safe return home.
Reed then threatened to kill the investigator, his family, and any other cops working on the case.
On August 16, 2024, detectives caught Reed and the minor together.
A judge also sentenced Reed to three years of supervised release after completing his prison sentence.
