In what investigators think is the largest cocaine bust ever in McLean County history, a California man is charged with having in his possession cocaine with a street value of $10 million when Illinois State Police stopped his semi on Interstate 74 in LeRoy.
State Police said the traffic stop occurred around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, on eastbound I-74 near milepost 148 in LeRoy. According to authorities, troopers seized nearly 107,000 grams (234 pounds) of cocaine from four large garbage bags in the back of the truck.
Jobanpreet Singh faces charges of cocaine trafficking and possession with intent to deliver 900 grams or more of cocaine. Both are Class X felonies, with mandatory jail terms ranging from six to thirty years if Singh is proven guilty. He is also charged with possession of 900 or more grams of cocaine, a Class 1 felony.
