A family-run convenience store in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, was recently robbed when a big number of adolescents converged on the shop to steal snacks, candies, and soda bottles. A witness videotaped the incident on their phone, and it shows an unidentifiable group of people leaving the premises with stolen goods. Due to the high number of stealing instances, the store’s owners are apparently planning to close at the end of the month.
In the 48-second video, approximately 20 youngsters can be seen racing past the counter and out of the store, several of whom are wearing masks or hoods to disguise their faces. Carrying snacks, candies, and soda bottles in their hands, the shoplifters clumsily make their way through the store, knocking over neatly arranged things and leaving a strewn mess of candy bars on the floor.
As the final youths leave the premises, an elderly lady in a zimmer frame appears and can be seen buying. In an attempt to provide the surviving shoplifter with wise life counsel, the woman informs him, “You’re not going to heaven, son. That is stealing! Look, the devil is in you. Does your mother take you to church? You do not care. You’ll pay for it five years later.” However, the kid simply ignores the elderly woman’s pleadings; thus, the advice looks to be ineffective. With an armful of stolen goods, the shoplifter passes past her to collect one final thing from the floor before exiting the store.
While the tumultuous video continues to circulate online, there has been an outpouring of comments condemning the shoplifters’ rowdy behavior. Many criticized the children’s upbringing, with one simply commenting, “Bad parenting,” and another went even further, just writing, “No parenting.” Another Redditor praised the older lady who attempted to reason with one of the youths, writing, “Granny over there trying her best.”
Whether police responded to the crime scene or made any arrests remains unclear. However, there is some more context with the clip, which reads, “Fort Greene, Brooklyn, USA. Rumors suggest that the owners are planning to close at the end of the month for the same reason.
