A 20-year-old man was detained on Sunday after punching a Chili’s employee in the face at the restaurant’s Bayside Marketplace branch in Miami, knocking the victim unconscious and causing him to lose five front teeth, according to investigators.
According to a Miami Police Department arrest record, the attack took place at around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday at Chili’s on 401 Biscayne Boulevard.
According to police, witnesses escorted an officer to the garage area where the suspect was reportedly attempting to flee, telling the officer that the suspect’s family members had threatened to shoot them if they continued to follow them to their vehicle.
According to the arrest report, additional officers arrived at the garage and ordered all of the occupants out of the vehicle at gunpoint.
According to police, the suspect, Montreal Brown of Miami, exited the automobile from the rear passenger side.
He was then seized and placed in the rear seat of a police car.
According to the report, officers watched surveillance video from inside the restaurant that showed Brown approaching the victim, who was busing tables, and hitting him once in the face, causing the victim to fall to the floor and lose consciousness.
According to police, Brown then stood over the victim and clenched his fist.
According to the report, Brown’s family members told authorities that he suffers from a problem, but Brown denied having any mental diseases or learning disabilities.
Police stated he refused to speak with officers about what had happened.
Authorities arrested Brown on charges of aggravated violence resulting in serious bodily harm.
The report states that Jackson Memorial Hospital treated the man for his injuries. According to police, the hit caused the victim to lose five of his front teeth.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown.
Brown was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Monday, and his bond was noted in online prison records as “to be set.”
