An Indiana man was arrested after allegedly breaking into 25 cars.
On Friday, April 18, shortly before 11 p.m., the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies received a complaint from a person who indicated someone had been spotted searching through their automobile in Rossville.
Police said they received calls about car break-ins in the Rossville area throughout Friday night and Saturday morning.
“There were a few reports made to patrol deputies that night, and then Saturday morning, a couple of the patrol deputies were saturating Rossville just looking for other open doors, other victims and such and they found several,” said Deputy Mark Pinkard, who led the investigation.
Pinkard added that as additional reports come in, the total number of break-ins this weekend could approach 50.
In a security video shared with 13News by an anonymous neighbor, the suspect can be seen creeping in between automobiles in a driveway.
According to Detective Pinkard, the man fled with cash, knives, and other small electronics, and stolen AirPods assisted in locating the perpetrator.
We combined the fact that we knew where the AirPods were with a suspect, and then we began triangulating and figuring things out quickly,” Pinkard said. “We set up a perimeter, and before you knew it, we had a good suspect in mind and apprehended him.”
After taking interviews and gathering evidence, police claimed they apprehended a 28-year-old Rossville resident. He faces preliminary charges of theft and unauthorized access into a motor vehicle. He is being jailed under a $750 cash bond.
